The city of Rome is a dream for everyone, full of historical monuments and archaeological sites, a real open-air museum.
Sant'Angelo castel
Also known as Hadrian's Mausoleum
Castel Sant'Angelo (or Mole Adrianorum or Castellum Crescentii in the 10th-12th century), also known as the Mausoleum of Hadrian, is a monument of Rome, located on the right bank of the Tiber in front of the pons Aelius (current Sant'Angelo bridge), a short distance from the Vatican, between the Borgo and Prati districts; it is connected to the Vatican State through the fortified corridor of the "passetto". The castle has been radically modified several times in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
Vatican
A city-state in the center of Rome
Vatican City, a city-state in central Rome, Italy, is the heart of the Roman Catholic Church. In addition to being the seat of the Pope, it houses a collection of extraordinary works of art and architecture. In the Vatican Museums there are ancient Roman sculptures such as the famous Laocoon Group, as well as the Renaissance frescoes of the Raphael Rooms and the Sistine Chapel, famous for Michelangelo's frescoes.
Imperial Forums
A series of five monumental squares
The Imperial Forums are a series of five monumental squares built over a century and a half (between 46 BC and 113 AD) in the heart of the city of Rome by Julius Caesar and the emperors Augustus, Vespasian, Nerva and Trajan.
On the other hand, the Roman Forum, that is the old republican square, is not part of them, the first arrangement of which dates back to the royal age (6th century BC) and which had been for centuries the political, religious and economic center of the city, but which did not have never a unitary character. Under Caesar and Augustus, the construction of the Basilica Giulia and the reconstruction of the Basilica Emilia, which delimited the long sides of the square, nevertheless gave the Forum a certain regularity.
